We did not eat the breakfast. Drove to a restaurant. Cleaning staff was very pleasant. Liked location of Golden Chain Motel. Near Grass Valley, CA. Off Hiway 49, up a steep driveway to enter parking area. Quiet. Would be good to install a vertical grab bar to the right of bathtub/shower for ease of entry/exit to the tub. Towel had an odor like perhaps they had not been sufficiently rinsed. Our room was the size of a small studio apartment. Golden Chain located in a forested area. We would return.

Lee was very personable and friendly. But this is a 2-star hotel for 3-4star prices. We chose it for the location - close to our other events. But the shower was very difficult to control the temperature and was mostly too hot. The beds had some kind of cover on them that crinkled whenever a person moved. The bathroom door was difficult to close fully. There was no bathroom fan - only a hole in the ceiling.

There was no breakfast. According to the girl at the front desk, they werent supposed to give us breakfast due to covid 19. Breakfast was a pastry in a bag, nothing else. The only thing nice was the pool, which was cool and deep, but only open from noon to 8 oclock.

I had stayed at this motel back in 1988 for some family events. My dad and I got to stay in the exact same room as we did 33 years prior. This was really cool!

It reminded me of the motels from the 60's. It was located in an area surrounded by trees. This made the location look very rural which I liked very much. The staff was excellent. The resolved any issue with a smile and immediate response. I would recommend this motel to any of my friends. I'm sure they would love this motel.
